Axiom
I know that we live in a society where "facts" are very important. As they say, "In God we trust but for others bring facts and data". But outside the realm of statistics, there are some subject matters that we are apprehensive to speak of in public. The only time that we speak of these subject matters are in private settings with a few good friends, sometimes with close family members, and sometimes with our significant other. Sometimes, we bypass the talking and keep these subject matters to ourselves because we don't even believe what we've seen or experienced.
I'm a skeptic who want to believe in the paranormal or in any sign that indicates that there is more to life than just living and dying. I've read and heard about paranormal events but have never really experienced any myself until recently. The first incident that I experienced was about ten years ago. It was in the middle of winter and the crew just finished closing up shop. It was around 2:30 in the morning; after closing up shop, I was wired and couldn't sleep. So instead of heading home after work, I decided to go for a drive before heading home. I was about twenty-five miles outside the city limits on the back roads. It was snowing and all was going well until my headlights flashed on and off. At this point, I felt a chill come over me and found myself saying, "Okay, dad, if this is your way of telling me to get my butt home I will..." Needless to say, my headlights came back on and I continued on my little drive. About a quarter mile into my drive, my head lights flashed off and on again. This time around, I was beginning to feel a little weird and repeated what I said the first time.
The weird thing about this second time was that I was at a cross road that lead to the main highway (which lead back to the city). I got myself back on the highway and headed home. My headlights stopped flashing off and on. The very next morning, I brought my vehicle to my brother's house and asked if he could check to see if there was any electrical shortages that may have caused my head lights to flash on and off. My brother checked and said that everything was fine. "Are you sure"? and my brother reassured me that all electrical wiring and what not was fine and in working order.
The second incident that was experienced was just this past Memorial weekend. The whole family was going up north to the cabin on Monday. My nephews and myself decided that we were going ahead and left Friday night. We went ahead and had good time before the rest of the family arrived. Saturday night, we were all sitting by the camp fire and catching up on what everyone have been doing. Out of the corner of my eyes, I saw a black figure running towards the area of where we parked the cars. I looked to see what it was or who would be running in that direction and I saw nothing. I thought nothing of it and continued listening to what everyone was talking about. A few minutes later, I saw another black figure running in the same direction as the first black figure.
The first black figure was in a black shadow of an adult and the second black figure was in a black shadow of a young child. If my eyes were playing tricks on me, wouldn't the black figures be the same? I brushed it off and thought nothing of it. A few days later, I told my brother about the incident. My brother sort of chuckled and said that my other brother took a picture and captured two figures on film. When I heard this, I was blown away. This confirmed the fact that I wasn't crazy or seeing things.
The skeptic half of me, could not come up with any logical explanation for these two incidents in my life. The half of me that wanted so much know could not believe what took place. After a few weeks of digesting these two incidents, I have come to the realization that there are things in our current reality that exist whether or not we believe it to be true. For example, we know that the wind exists. We feel it on our skin and on our face; we can see the affects all around us. Just because we cannot see it, the wind, doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.
